William Newell and Sally Payne, co-stars in 1936’s Republic Pictures musical western, The Big Show, saddle up and ride the range — or the backlot, anyway. Newell played Alfalfa’s father in the Our Gang comedies, Payne is best known for her role as Calamity Jane in 1940’s Young Bill Hickok, with Roy Rogers.
