William Newell and Kay Hughes– costars in the 1936 Republic Pictures’ Gene Autry vehicle The Big Show– take a bike for a spin. Newell was a busy character actor in the Thirties and Forties: he played Alfalfa’s dad in the Our Gang comedies, Dr. Henley in Our Miss Brooks, and had hundreds of small, uncredited roles. Hughes worked mostly in the mid-Thirties in Hollywood, in a series of westerns, crime pics and romances.
