Joan Fulton, clad in sporty beach wear, poses with a Universal Pictures Still Department bike (you can read “Still Dept” on the top of the rear fender). It’s 1946, a year that saw Fulton appearing in nine (9!) titles at Universal, where she was a contract player. A decade and a bit later , Fulton reclaimed her birth name, Shawlee, and had smaller roles in three Billy Wilder classics: Some Like It Hot (as bandleader Sweet Sue), The Apartment and Irma La Douce. Shawlee also played Fiona “Pickles” Sorrell, wife of writer Maurice “Buddy” Sorrell (Morey Amsterdam) in recurring episodes of The Dick Van Dyke Show.
