Ginger Rogers, the Hollywood star who danced opposite Fred Astaire in a series of sparkling musicals, poses alongside a bicycle in a Paramount publicity photo for her 1942 comedy, The Major and the Minor. And yes, Rogers rides a bike in the Billy Wilder-directed film. Rogers won the Best Actress Oscar a year earlier for her title performance in Kitty Foyle.
Here’s the verso: “COMEDY FOR GINGER– Ginger Rogers is back to straight comedy again at Paramount after several years of doing musical pictures and winning the Academy Award in a highly-dramatic role. Her new picture is ‘The Major and the Minor,’ in which she stars with Ray Milland. It is all comedy, with just enough romance and no singing or dancing. She gets a load of acting assignments, however, since in many scenes she must act like a twelve-year-old girl in posing as a minor.”
