Dorothy Mackaill — the British-American star who segued smoothly from Ziegfeld Follies to Silent Era melodramas to pre-code talkies — is pictured pedaling a paddle-bike on the California coast. Signed to First National in 1925, the actress’ credits include Bits of Life (with Lon Chaney), The Man Who Came Back (with George O’Brien) and Love Affair (with a not-yet-famous Humphrey Bogart). Mackaill retired from films in 1937 and spect the last 35 years of her life in Honolulu.
