Christine Kaufmann and Joachim Hansen pedal down a village street in the Swiss Alps in the 1961 German drama, Via Mala. Adapted from John Knittel’s 1930s novel, it’s about the death of a tyrannical patriarch and all the folks suspected of being his murderer. Kaufmann, winner of the Golden Globe for best newcomer for her role in Town Without Pity (also 1961), worked steadily in American and European films and television well into the new millennium.
