Betsy Drake goes down to the sea on her bicycle in this Bud Fraker photo taken just after the Paris-born actress signed on to Hal Wallis Productions. Unhappy in Hollywood, Drake broke off the contract and headed east. She returned to California in 1947 to star opposite Cary Grant in the 1948 RKO romantic comedy, Every Girl Should Be Married. A year later, Drake and Grant wed.
From the snipe: “DOWN TO THE SEA… Betsy Drake, latest star discovery of Hal Wallis Productions, enjoys a week-end at the beach. Not the synthetic or hot-house variety, but a real out-door girl, Betsy swims, rides, cycles, is a fishing enthusiast and can handle a speedboat.”
