Adele Mara stops to take in the backlot sights. The actress, born Adelaida Delgado, was signed by Columbia in 1942, co-starred in the Fred Astaire-Rita Hayworth musical You Were Never Lovelier and had the lead female role opposite Chester Morris in Alias Boston Blackie. Mara later moved to Republic Pictures, where she worked in westerns and outdoor adventure pics, including several with John Wayne.
Here’s the caption for the 1942 photo, taken by Don English: “SMART GIRL: Taking a holiday from her roles in Columbia Pictures, Adele Mara, singing and dancing discovery, is shown here as she goes for a bicycle ride, dressed in a white playsuit to get the maximum of sun and fresh air.”
